Beyond servers: Malaysia targets bigger share of AI economy
Malaysia is chasing a bigger share of the AI supply chain beyond its data centres, from chips and cooling to specialised hardware. The Business Times feature included nanoSkunkWorkX Co-Founder and CEO Iqbal Shamsul, whose company is developing a thin-film interface to manage heat and current in AI chip packaging. Tin Men Capital backs Malaysian deeptech startup with $2m
Tin Men Capital led a US$2 million seed round in nanoSkunkWorkX, a Malaysian start-up that develops thin-film interfaces for semiconductors, hydrogen systems and diagnostics, Tech in Asia reported. Co-founded in 2019 by former NASA principal investigator Dr Amani Salim and Iqbal Shamsul, the company named Tin Men as its first Singaporean investor. It will put the money towards semiconductor partner qualification, scaling its interface-engineering platform and hydrogen and diagnostic programmes in Asia.
‘You need to have great barriers to entry’: More VC firms expand into deep tech as AI reshapes startup investing
Venture funding in Singapore fell 34% to US$4.6 billion in 2025, and more generalist VC firms are moving into deep tech. Tin Men Capital Co-Founder and Managing Partner Murli Ravi told The Business Times the firm has extended further into frontier tech, backing Pints AI and Tau, and that founders will now avoid investors who do not understand the science. “There are opportunities for folks who have been consistent,” he said.
